The Texas Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (TBFAA) is a non-profit organization comprised of professional Security and Fire Alarm companies that operate in the great state of Texas.  Members are required to be licensed by the Department of Public safety and/or the Texas Fire Marshal’s Office and to agree to abide by a stringent code of ethics.

The affairs of the association are governed by an elected Board of Directors, which includes members from throughout Texas, who donate their time to serve the citizens of Texas by advancing the professionalism of our industry.

We work closely with national associations including; the National Electronic Security Alliance (NESA), Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) and the False Alarm Reduction Association (FARA) to craft and enact standards that affect the security industry nationally.

Since the early 1980’s, the TBFAA has worked closely with the Governor, Legislature, the State Fire Marshal’s office and the Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau, as well as local Police and Fire Professionals to:

  • Educate industry, alarm users and public safety on state of the art methods to reduce false alarms and recover costs for public safety alarm response.
  • Ensure a fair and equitable business climate for the industry.
  • Ensure that Texas citizens continue to enjoy public safety alarm response.
  • Promote company and professional licensing including appropriate training, background checks and operating standards.
  • Support appropriate staffing for our regulators, including enhanced enforcement.
  • Oppose cumbersome, restrictive or unenforceable law or regulation.

We look forward to continuing these efforts, in accordance with our code of ethics, to continue to provide the finest in security and fire alarm services to Texas citizens.

Legislative Support Team

The TBFAA gives you strong representation before the state legislative and administrative bodies that have the right to regulate and tax you such as the  Texas Legislature, Texas Commission on Private Security, and State Board of  Insurance Office of the Fire Marshall. Only when many voices speak as one are your interests protected from outside influences, and legislation. There is no other efficient or effective way to confront legislative bodies or to solve problems within our industry.
